CIVIC HALL EVENT: FREE DIGITAL SKILLS WORKSHOPS FOR NON-PROFITS
Join us at Civic Hall for a series of free workshops for non-profit executives hosted by Civic Hall and Comcast NBCUniversal. These sessions are intended for non-profit executives who would like to understand more about digital strategy concepts and how they connect to overall organizational strategy. Session will be focused on providing increased understanding of digital strategy and storytelling, how to use data to inform your strategy and work, and how leading-edge technologies like AR/VR can be used to support your work.
Register for one session or multiple sessions. All sessions are from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and will be hosted at Civic Hall (118 West 22nd Street, 12th Floor).

Tuesday, November 14 - Exploring New Tools for Engagement (AR/VR/Live Video) - leader to be announced soon

WEDNESDAY: MAIN WORKSPACE CLOSING EARLY
Due to a private event, the main collaborative workspace and cafe area will be closing at4pm Wednesday, 11⁄8. The quiet zone and junior board room will be open as usual until7pm.
MANHATTAN BOROUGH PRESIDENT: COMMUNITY POWERED WAN FOR IOT WITH LORA!
The Office of the Manhattan Borough President, Gale A. Brewer and Terrill Moore of The Things Network will lead adiscussion onTuesday, 11⁄14 at 4:30of how a diverse community of technologists, engineers, and government are working to stand up a wide area network (WAN) for Internet of Things (IoT) devices that covers the entire borough of Manhattan and what that means for the Civic Hacker community. A borough-wide IoT WAN has huge implications for everyone from big data to scrappy not-for-profits. We will talk about current use cases and how LoRa can open new doors for entrepreneurs, students, and advocates alike.
PARTNER EVENT: HUMANITARIAN BLOCKCHAIN SUMMIT
From financing to refugee data protection, gender equality to micro-contracts, blockchain technology has the potential to reshape the future of humanitarian action. TheHumanitarian Blockchain Summithosted by the Institute of International Humanitarian Affairs at Fordham University will foster dynamic discussions between leaders from the humanitarian and technology sectors to address the challenges and generate workable solutions for blockchain in humanitarian response.
This initiative is put on in partnership with the Centre for Innovation at Leiden University, Civic Hall, and the United Nations Office of Information and Technology.
OUR FIRST WOMEN’S UNCONFERENCE
Civic Hall is excited to present our first Women’s Unconference, in partnership with LMHQ and Civic Women, on the evening of Thursday, November 30th. This event will emphasize the informal exchange of information and ideas between participants about innovations in women’s advocacy and female empowerment.
MAYOR’S OFFICE OF TECH + INNOVATION CO-LAB CHALLENGES
Now as part of NYCx, Neighborhood Innovation Labs has evolved into NYCx Co-Labs. And we are excited to share the first two Co-Lab Challenges emerging from our collaborative work in Brownsville, Brooklyn. On behalf of the Mayor’s Office, CTO Miguel Gamiño, our City agency partners, and our Brownsville-based collaborators, we are inviting global and local technologists and innovators to submit proposals for the following Challenges by December 15.
Safe and Thriving Nighttime Corridors Open call for urban technology proposals to enhance the nighttime experience and use of sidewalks and public spaces in the Belmont Avenue corridor in Brownsville, Brooklyn.
Zero Waste in Shared Space Open call for urban technology proposals to help reduce waste and increase recycling in Brownsville Houses, a public housing development in Brownsville, Brooklyn.
